Fair Housing Policy

RentMatcher supports fair and equal access to housing. This policy explains the rules that apply when you use RentMatcher for rental listings, roommate matching, messages, tour requests, landlord lead tools, reports, and related services.

This policy is part of our Terms of Service. It is not legal advice. Fair housing and civil-rights obligations can vary by location, and each user is responsible for following the laws that apply to them and to the housing involved.

1. Protected Classes

The federal Fair Housing Act prohibits housing discrimination based on race, color, religion, sex, national origin, familial status, and disability. State and local laws may add protections such as sexual orientation, gender identity, marital status, source of income, age, military or veteran status, or other characteristics.

2. What Is Prohibited

3. Matching And Ranking

RentMatcher's matching and ranking are designed not to use protected-class signals such as race, color, religion, sex, national origin, familial status, or disability. Age and date of birth are used for eligibility and safety purposes and are deliberately excluded from matching and ranking. Scores are estimates, not guarantees or eligibility decisions.

4. Roommate Matching

Roommate situations can involve nuanced legal rules, but RentMatcher public profiles, listings, bios, messages, and roommate-related content still may not state or imply discriminatory preferences. If you are unsure how the law applies, confirm your obligations before posting or communicating.

5. Disability, Accommodations, And Assistance Animals

Fair housing law protects people with disabilities, including reasonable accommodations and assistance animals where required by law. Assistance animals are not ordinary pets for many housing-law purposes. Do not discourage, reject, or charge improper pet-related fees to a person who needs an assistance animal where the law requires accommodation.

6. Reports And Enforcement

If you believe content or conduct violates this policy, report it in the app or email support@rentmatcher.com with details. We may remove or require changes to content, limit features, issue warnings, suspend accounts, ban users, and preserve records where needed for safety, fraud prevention, legal compliance, or dispute resolution.

Reporting to RentMatcher does not replace your right to contact the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development or a state or local fair housing or civil rights agency.
